For Trevor Borgmeyer, welding started with a summer job—and quickly became something bigger.

After spending time working in a fabrication shop, Trevor realized he enjoyed the work, the pace, and the hands-on nature of the trade. Combined with stories from his uncle, who had also worked as a welder, it became clear that welding was more than a temporary job—it was a career worth pursuing.

“I had a summer job at a fabrication shop and I liked it, so I thought I would pursue a career in it,” Trevor said.

That early experience gave him the confidence to move forward and begin building a future in the trade.

A Career Built on Growth

One of the biggest reasons Trevor chose welding is the opportunity for constant improvement.

For him, welding is not just about learning one skill and repeating it—it is about continuing to grow, improve, and challenge yourself every day.

“Learning how to better yourself every day and just learning things new,” he said, is one of the things that makes the trade rewarding.

That mindset is what keeps him motivated and what makes the work feel meaningful.

Building Skills Through Training

At the academy, Trevor is gaining experience across multiple welding processes, building the kind of versatility that opens doors throughout the industry.

He is training in stick welding, MIG, flux core, TIG, and advanced TIG pipe welding—giving him a strong foundation for a variety of career paths.

“Here at this academy, I’m learning to do stick, MIG, flux core, and then TIG all the way out, and TIG on pipe,” he explained.

That range of training helps prepare students for both immediate job opportunities and long-term career growth.

A Strong Learning Environment

Trevor also values the culture of the program itself.

He describes the Iron Eagle Welding Academy as a place where both instructors and students are eager to help each other improve, creating a positive learning environment where progress feels achievable.

“At this academy, it’s more of a learning environment. Everybody’s pretty eager to teach and learn,” he said.

That kind of support makes a difference, especially for students entering the field and building confidence in their skills.

Looking Toward the Future

Trevor sees a future in welding filled with opportunity—more jobs, more travel, and more chances to grow.

“I’m really glad that I chose welding as a career,” he said. “My future probably holds a lot of jobs, a lot of everything. A lot of traveling.”

Like many in the trade, he recognizes that welding offers flexibility. Whether someone wants to stay local, travel for projects, or continue expanding into new specialties, the possibilities are wide open.

Why Welding Is the Right Choice

For Trevor, welding stands out because it is practical, rewarding, and always in demand.

There is variety in the work, strong opportunity in the field, and a constant need for skilled professionals.

“I think welding is a good career choice because it is more interesting, and there’s more things to do out there,” he said. “There’s a lot of people looking for help in the welding field.”

His advice is simple and direct:

“Welding is the way to go.”

For Trevor, it is a career that offers both challenge and reward—and a future that continues to grow with every new skill learned.
