SSAB is one of the largest North American producers of steel plate and coil, serving many industrial markets including energy, construction, agriculture, and transportation. SSAB is committed to being North America’s steel supplier of choice with five state-of-the-art facilities strategically located in key regions across the US and Canada. SSAB steel is found in the infrastructure that builds and moves the world – in heavy machinery, ships, wind towers, rail cars and more – playing a vital role in people’s daily lives.
As the global market leader in steel production with corporate headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, SSAB has two divisions located in North America – the Americas division (steel mill and R&D facility in Montpelier, Iowa; and three cut-to-length facilities in Houston, Texas, St. Paul, Minn., and Toronto, Ontario) and the Special Steels division (steel mill in Axis, Alabama).
SSAB steel mills in North America are cost-effective sources for high quality steel in a wide range of sizes — steel of exceptional flatness and superior surface quality. The mills also provide downstream services on product, such as coil slitting, blasting, and painting, and heat treatments (normalized or quenched & tempered).
SSAB’s cut-to-length facilities process coils of various widths, gauges, and grades. All sites are ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Specification).
SSAB Zero™
SSAB Zero™, the steel industry’s first truly zero CO2 emission steel product, was produced in 2023 at the SSAB Iowa facility. SSAB Zero is the industry’s most advanced sustainable steel product. It is produced using a science-based, data-driven approach to identify and reduce CO2 emissions directly at the source. Together with our suppliers and customers, SSAB is accelerating its CO2 emissions-reduction journey.
