Dennis has been contributing to the steel pipe industry since 1974 where he started with Thompson Pipe. In 1992, he continued in his career with a transfer to Northwest Pipe. In 2007, Dennis retired from Northwest Pipe and started his own consulting company, Dechant Infrastructure Services.

Dennis is a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines (1972) and holds a degree in Mathematics Engineering. He is a professional Engineer in Colorado (since 1981).

Dennis’s contributions to the industry were vast as seen through his work in:

  • Steel Water Pipe Manufacturers Technical Advisory Committee (SWPMTAC) – 1979-current
  • SWPMTAC Chairman from 1983-2014
  • AWWA Steel Pipe Committee Secretary – 1983-2014
  • STI/SPFA – 1979-current: Work included standard steel pipe specification, SPFA Certification program, and transitioning the audit program from oil and gas to the steel water pipe industry; past Board Member and President of of SPFA
  • Has supported the STI/SPFA Steel Pipe Section via consulting services where he has continued to champion steel pipe through white papers, webinars, and seismic committee work.
  • Presented countless papers, seminars, and workshops for the industry
