This month, we highlight Robby Hagemann, President/CEO at Boardman LLC.
STI/SPFA: Tell us about your company and your role in the organization.
Robby Hagemann: Boardman was founded in 1910 and specializes in custom ASME Section VIII Div. I and II pressure vessels up to 16′ diameter 200′ long and 400T of a wide variety of materials from carbon steel, stainless steel, low alloy, high alloy and clad.
We also have a fast growing Field Services division that takes our shop capabilities and expertise and applies them to field work that our customers need.
As President/CEO my focus is making sure our employees have what they need to be successful.
STI/SPFA: How did you first become involved with STI/SPFA?
Hagemann: My involvement began when I was working in the shop and safety fell under my responsibilities and I leaned heavily on STI/SPFA’s safety consultant at the time and I became an active member of the Safety and Health Committee back in 2007.
STI/SPFA: Why did you want to serve on the STI/SPFA Board of Directors?
Hagemann: I really wanted to help be the voice of pressure vessel fabricators within the organization to help grow this side of it. It’s a great group of people, from the staff to all the board volunteers. Being a part of something that benefits the entire industry and seeing the growth we have enjoyed as an association has been a pleasure.
STI/SPFA: What do you get out of serving on the board?
Hagemann: Feeling that I am a part of setting up the association for success long into the future has been very satisfying. There have been a ton of changes over the years of my involvement, and I’m proud to say that I have been a small part of that.
STI/SPFA: What do you see as one of the biggest opportunities for STI/SPFA members?
Hagemann: Building relationships with other people in our field that face similar issues where we can work together in ways that are mutually beneficial. On top of that, the health and safety group and our legislative advocacy are benefits that far exceed any cost associated with membership.
STI/SPFA: What would you say to a member who is considering getting more involved?
Hagemann: Our association is only as successful as those that get involved are willing to make it. The more you get involved the more you will get out of it, and it is worth the effort.
