The STI/SPFA Board Member Spotlight highlights the leaders who help guide the association and support its mission. Each feature introduces a board member, their company, and their role in the industry while sharing their perspective on leadership, member involvement, and the value of serving STI/SPFA.
This month, we highlight Dan O’Day, owner of O’Day Tank & Steel.
STI/SPFA: Tell us about your company and your role in the organization.
Dan O’Day: I am the owner of O’Day Tank & Steel, where my primary focus is business development and the company’s long-term strategy. I work to identify new opportunities, strengthen relationships within the industry, and help guide the future direction of the steel fabrication industry.
STI/SPFA: How did you first become involved with STI/SPFA?
O’Day: My introduction to STI/SPFA began at a young age when I traveled with my parents to steel tank industry meetings. As I became more involved in the family business, I came to appreciate the organization’s technical resources, industry knowledge, and support. Those resources have helped us evaluate tank technologies and provide dependable solutions to our customers.
STI/SPFA: Why did you want to serve on the STI/SPFA Board of Directors?
O’Day: Serving on the board had been a goal of mine for the past several years, so I was grateful when the opportunity became available. I wanted to become more involved, contribute the experience I have gained in the industry, and learn from other members and leaders within the organization.
STI/SPFA: What do you get out of serving on the board?
O’Day: Serving on the board gives me an opportunity to take the next step in my involvement with STI/SPFA. I look forward to contributing to discussions about emerging technologies, sharing an end-user and business perspective, and learning more from others across the industry.
STI/SPFA: What do you see as one of the biggest opportunities for STI/SPFA members?
O’Day: One of the greatest benefits of membership is having a nationally recognized organization supporting the products and technologies that members manufacture. STI/SPFA provides credibility, technical guidance, industry advocacy, and a strong network of professionals who share a commitment to quality and safety.
STI/SPFA: What would you say to a member who is considering getting more involved?
O’Day: You do not need to begin with a major time commitment or leadership position. Getting involved can be as simple as participating in meetings, sharing your experience, or helping represent the technologies and products your company builds. Even a small level of participation allows you to learn from others, build valuable relationships, and benefit from the strength of the organization behind you.
