This project was unique in of itself. This was a tie into an existing 50-year-old main line. Many obstacles had to be overcome to facilitate this intricate design. Upon excavation it was noted by the contractor that the existing pipe was out of alignment from what was originally thought. We facilitated the design changes on the fly as pipe was being fabricated in the shop.
This project was required to have a design pressure of 250 psi. With this project, there was not adequate room for outlet reinforcement. Steel pipe wall thickness had to be increased per calculations and then hydrostatically tested to insure proof of design.
On top of limited room, site access was also limited, as this is a main water line for the city of Tulsa. The contractors were allowed a narrow shutdown window. Once the pipe was cut, the contractor had thirty days to complete the removal of existing pipe and install the new. The project consisted of 5 different connection types of varying diameters. This included flanged, flexible coupling, lap joint, buttstrap, and mechanical joint flanges. As you can see there is limited available room to complete the required connections.
Coatings and linings consisted of Epoxy, Tape Wrap, and Cement Mortar, all of which was applied in house per their respective AWWA standards. Pipe was designed, fabricated, and delivered within the allotted time frame.
