STI/SPFA recently spoke with Ms. Supara Sinsamudpadung, Managing Director at Padungsilpa Engineering Co., Ltd., about her career in the steel fabrication industry.

STI/SPFA: Tell us about the history of your company.

Supara Sinsamudpadung: Padungsilpa Group began its petroleum service station business in 1964 under the name Padung Silpa Karnchang Partnership, founded by Mr. Amnuay Sinsamutpadung. Initially, the company focused on constructing and renovating service stations for leading oil companies such as Shell Thailand Co., Ltd.

The high-quality work and recognition gained the trust of other major oil companies, including The Shell Company of Thailand. The Partnership, then gradually become be trusted by other major oil companies like Kuwait Petroleum (Thailand) Limited (formerly, Q8 brand), Chevron Thailand (Caltex brand), Conoco (Thailand) Limited (formerly Jet brand), ExxonMobil Thailand (Esso brand), PTT Plc. (PTT) brand and Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited (Bangchak brand).

Due to the high standards and recognition in service station construction, the second-generation management, Mr. Chayutpong and Mrs. Supara Sinsamudpadung, restructured the administration and established Padungsilpa Civil  Woek Co., Ltd. in 1997. This company specializes in comprehensive service station construction and related permits.

STI/SPFA: How did you get your start in the industry?

Sinsamudpadung: Leveraging our extensive experience and recognition in the petroleum service station industry, the company identified an opportunity to expand into underground fuel storage tank manufacturing.

In 1993, the management established Padungsilpa Engineering Co., Ltd. to produce steel tanks for underground and aboveground fuel storage, as well as other steel structures supporting service station construction and beyond.

The manufacturing plant, located in Sam Khok, Pathum Thani, started with an initial production capacity of 400 tanks per year, eventually expanding to 2,400 tanks per year, including the production of PERMATANK®, a double-walled steel jacketed underground fuel storage tank certified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.

STI/SPFA: Who has inspired you in your career?

Sinsamudpadung: My father.

STI/SPFA: What’s been your favorite or most memorable moment of your career so far?

Sinsamudpadung: The most memorable moment was the time we received the award of STI PERMATANK® Top Producer of the Decade 2010-2019, presented by Mr. Wayne Geyer, P.E., former Executive Vice President of STI/SPFA on February 7, 2020.

STI/SPFA: What advice would you give someone who is interested in working in the industry?

Sinsamudpadung: As a manufacturer, having reliable business partners is essential to our success. We have consistently received excellent technical support from STI/SPFA, which has been instrumental in our operations. Our membership status with STI/SPFA significantly enhances our capabilities and strengthens our position in the industry.

STI/SPFA: What do you think will be the biggest challenge facing the industry in the next three to five years?

Sinsamudpadung: Electric vehicles will slow down the fuel car business and fuel service stations expansion.

STI/SPFA: How has STI/SPFA Membership helped you and your company succeed and grow in today’s marketplace?

Sinsamudpadung: At Padungsilpa Engineering (PSE), we have consistently received excellent technical support from STI/SPFA, which has been instrumental in our operations and help us get through and solve many technical issues.
