The first STI/SPFA Scholarship, offered through the American Welding Society (AWS) Foundation, was awarded to Lucas Lambeth of Iron Eagle Welding Academy. The scholarship was developed to annually award a student pursuing a career in welding, with preference given to those who wish to join the steel tank or pipe fabrication industry.

Lucas is from Reeds, Missouri and is studying Combination Structural and Pipe Welding. He was exposed to welding at a young age working with his grandfather on his farm to weld pipe fences. In addition he has participated in building two trailers in his agriculture construction class at school and has experience with a band saw, chop saw, torch, plasma cutter, GMAW welder, SMAW welder, iron worker, and more. He has a goal of learning all the different types of welding and the weld types for different metal thicknesses to complete any project. Lucas seeks to be the most efficient welder he can be.

“Thank you so much for supporting my education with your scholarship. I am honored to have received the Steel Tank Institute and Steel Plate Fabricators Association Scholarship and will use it wisely as I continue on my career path,” commented Lucas.

“Your contribution means so much.”

STI/SPFA looks forward to many more years of scholarships to welding students and the promotion of career options in the steel fabrication industry.
