The Village of Richfield, Ohio is a growing community located about 20 miles south of Cleveland. In 2022, the City of Cleveland, who services the Village of Richfield, contracted for a new 1,000,000 gallon “All-Steel”, single-pedestal spheroid style tank which is one of the tallest spheroid style tanks ever built. Towering above the horizon, this tank has a top capacity line of 218′-0 with the tank roof plus the top vent extending to 234′-6 above it’s base foundation. The “All-Steel” spheroid was highly desirable to the City who preferred the sleek profile and pleasing aesthetics of this tank style.

The 1,000,000-gallon spheroid with a 40′-0 head range provides excellent water pressure for the needs of the community. The bottom bell of the tank also houses a chlorine room, brine tanks, a hypochlorite tank and an altitude valve all accessible via a steel double door. In addition to engineering, procurement of the materials, fabrication, construction and painting of the tank, our scope also included foundation design. The tank is also supported by three concentric circles of plus one center 3′-0 diameter, 64′-0 deep drilled piers totaling twenty-eight (28) in number and topped with a 4′-0 thick pile cap.

The tank exterior is coated with a high-quality, long-lasting system inclusive of an Ultra Gloss urethane topcoat, which should continue to enhance the appearance of this towering 234′-6 tall structure which will stand as a monument overlooking the community for many years to come.
