The LNG Export Facility Process Phase 1 project involved the construction of four highly specialized tanks, crucial to supporting European energy demands. This hybrid project combined API 650, NFPA, and AWWA specifications, showcasing advanced engineering and construction capabilities to meet the owner’s stringent requirements.

The project included three carbon steel tanks and one 304 stainless steel tank, each designed for specific purposes meeting Liquified Natural Gas export demand.

A critical-path component was the 3-million-gallon firewater tank, which during construction needed to brought forward in schedule in order for the site to have firewater available for other construction operations. This is challenging for any tank, but this tank was 79’ in diameter and 48’ tall with a self supported dome roof. At almost 80’ this roof was structurally stiffened and to support the reduced schedule, the tank contractor had to ramp up shop fabrication operations, and provide a nightshift for both their selves and the coatings subcontractor.

The 304 stainless steel dome-roof tank served as a demineralized (demin) water tank, essential for industrial applications requiring ultra-pure water. To withstand the challenging Gulf Coast environment, this tank was finished with two full coats of field-applied paint for added protection against corrosion from the sea air.

The Diesel and Stormwater tank were both carbon steel tanks, one with a Dome Roof and one with Supported Cone Roof. All tanks received interior and exterior coatings.

To meet the demanding schedule, the project required two shifts and additional crews. The owner was highly satisfied with the outcome, awarding Phase 2 of the project to the same tank contractor, which is currently under construction. This initiative highlights the ability to deliver innovative storage solutions for critical international infrastructure.
