Surface Water Supply Project Central Pump Station

This project involved the installation of large-diameter transmission piping ranging from 86” down to 38” OD, with multiple wall thicknesses to meet varying system demands. Below grade, the pipe was cement-mortar lined and protected with polyurethane coating. Above grade—at the pump stations and static mixers—the pipe was epoxy lined and epoxy coated to ensure long-term corrosion resistance in critical operational areas.

Connections incorporated a range of methods suited to location and service conditions, including flanged joints, flexible couplings, welded bell-and-spigot joints, and 72” dismantling joints. All polyurethane-coated bell-and-spigot welds were further protected with heat-shrink sleeves after welding, providing a robust secondary seal and enhanced durability at the joints.

The completed system transfers water to and from twin GST tanks and delivers it to the City of Houston, Texas. The pipeline and facilities were designed with future growth in mind, allowing for the seamless addition of two more GST tanks to expand capacity as demand increases.
