Building the Solvay HCL Solution Tank was no ordinary task. The 30% HCL solution demanded strict containment measures, yet erecting the tank inside the dike wall posed serious safety concerns due to the extensive PPE requirements and potential hazards. To solve this, the team devised an innovative approach: construct the tank outside the containment area.

On a gravel pad adjacent to the site, the 32-foot diameter, 32-foot high API 650 dome-roof tank began to take shape. Precision was critical—the grillage welded beneath the bottom plate had to be perfectly level, a demanding feat for the contractor. Once the structure stood firm, specialists installed a Marflex PG70 rubber lining to protect against corrosion, followed by meticulous painting—all completed in the temporary gravel workspace.

When the tank was complete, the contractor executed the final act: the fully assembled tank, weighing over 31 tons, was lifted by crane and carefully placed inside the containment area, behind the dike wall. This strategic solution not only ensured safety but showcased engineering ingenuity and flawless execution under challenging conditions.
