The project provided the engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction of (2) 80′ DIA 40 PSIG Methane Spheres. The scope of work included the following:
– Foundation design (installed by others)
– Design, fabrication, construction and testing for an in-kind replacement of the existing 80′ DIA methane
spheres that were erected in the 1990s.
– The spherical vessel was designed, fabricated, and stamped in accordance with the ASME Section VIII, Div I
Edition 2021 Pressure Vessel Code.
– Installation of all stairs, ladders, handrails, and platforms
– Hydrostatic testing of Sphere
– Shop blast and prime prior to shipping to the field
– Installation of exterior protective coatings which included an organic zinc primer, an epoxy second coat
with a final topcoat of polyurethane.
There were scheduling challenges as the customer needed both spheres in service by a specified date to meet a funding requirement. Multiple erection and paint crews were mobilized in order to ensure the project schedule met those dates. The date was achieved safely and the Customer was ecstatic to have the project completed within the specific timeframe.
