Project consisted of the Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication and Construction of a 9,900 M3 M3 Liquid Nitrogen Tank consisting of a 77′-0 Dia X 105′-4 outer carbon steel tank and a 69′-0 Dia X 99′-5 H stainless steel inner tank as well as a 6,600 M3 Liquid Oxygen Tank consisting of a 78′-0 X 69′-6 outer carbon steel tank and a 70′-0 Dia X 63′-8 H stainless steel inner tank. These tanks will be a part of a billion dollar Blue Hydrogen production plant that will provide Hydrogen (H2) and Nitrogen (N2) for a nearby Blue Ammonia facility. With the inner product-containing tank made up of 201LN Stainless Steel, an even larger carbon steel outer tank is needed to contain the four feet of perlite insulation that keeps the inner “thermos bottle” from overheating. The Liquid Nitrogen Tank and Liquid Oxygen Tank were both engineered for a -320 deg F. design temperature.
In addition to the tank design, the scope of work also included self execution of the oxygen cleaning, perliting, painting, and annular piping.
The project was completed ahead of schedule and was safely completed with zero incidents which demonstrates the values and professionalism of the experienced construction crew as well as the capability and flexibility of steel to store liquified gases and cryogenic temperatures – making steel the material of choice!
