1,250,000 Gallon Watersperoid

In 2024 the City of South Elgin, Illinois contracted for a new 1,250,000 gallon “All-Steel”, single-pedestal spheroid style elevated water tank. The spheroid style was selected due to it’s sleek design, minimized footprint and lower maintenance costs due to its reduced surface area, as well as to match the style of the other elevated water storage tanks in the community.

In addition to the engineering, fabrication and construction of the tank, the scope of work included the foundation design, construction, painting, installation of electrical, cathodic protection, and hydrotesting. The support foundation consisted of fifty-seven 16″ diameter augercast piles sixty feet in length. And the electrical included a circulation system within the tank bell for automated chemical feed for the inlet water.

The tank towers nearly 140 feet feet in the air and bears the logo of the City. It’s location in an expanding single family development makes this tank very visible to the residents in the nearby subdivisions. And the high quality, long lasting Hydroflon top coated system should continue to enhance the appearance of this attractive landmark for years to come.

The 1,250,000 gallon spheroid with a 132′-6 top capacity line and 45′-0 head range will provide excellent water pressure for the needs of the community. It is truly a great looking elevated tank and the selection of a single pedestal spheroid style is a testament to the proven performance and durability of an “All Steel ” elevated tank which will provide many years of service to the City and its’ consumers.
